Connect Claude or ChatGPT to WordPress in five minutes.
Install the plugin, sign in from Claude or ChatGPT, then ask. Claude Code, Cursor and other apps connect with one message or one click. No server access, no code. Below are the screens you will see, and what happens behind each request.
Example setup with Claude Code
Every screen, in order.
About five minutes in all, from download to your first answer. No server access, no code.
What you need: WordPress 6.0 or newer with PHP 7.4 or newer, HTTPS on a live site, an administrator account and an AI app that supports MCP. WooCommerce is optional. Full requirements
Install the plugin and activate your plan.
Choose a plan, the Free plan too, and check out. Then download the plugin in My account › Downloads. The license key that activates it is in My account › Licenses.
In WordPress, go to Plugins › Add Plugin › Upload Plugin and choose the plugin’s .zip file.
Activate it. A new PowerWP AI menu appears.
Open PowerWP AI › License, paste your license key and choose Activate. The screen shows your plan and how many AI connections it includes. A test site on localhost or a .test address needs a key too: a paid plan covers one local copy without using up the plan’s site.
Open PowerWP AI. The Dashboard says AI access is online and offers a Create connection button.
No AI app is connected yet. Create a connection and follow the steps for your app: it takes about two minutes.
+ Create connectionConnect your AI app.
Claude and ChatGPT connect by signing in, with no key to copy. The other apps, such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, connect with one message or one click, using a connection key. Each connection has its own permissions. Your plan sets how many you can have: Free 1 (read-only), Solo 1, Team 3, Crew 10.
With a key (Claude Code and the other apps):
Open PowerWP AI › Connections and choose Create connection.
Pick your AI app and name the connection. Choose what it may do. Under More options you can set an expiry and lock it to your IP address.
Choose Create key and show steps. PowerWP shows the setup for your app, with your site address and key already in it. Copy it and follow it. The key is shown only once, and it is separate from your license key: only the app uses it.
PowerWP waits for your app. A box turns green as soon as the app reaches your site. If it doesn’t, a firewall or security plugin may be blocking it: see Troubleshooting.
New to this? Keep Read-only diagnostics, the first choice. The AI app can look around and change nothing. You can change a connection later.

Please connect yourself to my WordPress site your-store.com through PowerWP AI, so you can use its tools. Add this remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP) to your own settings for my user account: - Name: your-store - URL: https://your-store.com/wp-json/wpai/v1/mcp - Header: X-WPAI-Token: wpai_•••••••• …
Ask. Start with these five.
Type them into your AI app as they are. They only read, so they are safe on any site and work on the Free plan. They show you what PowerWP can see.
Then try a recipe. PowerWP comes with 43 ready-made procedures that your app shows as commands. Ask “Run the monthly check-up on my site.” Recipes that change something look first, show you the exact texts and wait for your yes. About recipes
Tell it about your business once. Ask “Set up the site memory.” Your rules and facts then reach every AI app you connect, after you approve them. About site memory
“Give me an overview of my site.”
“Any errors in the logs from the last 24 hours?”
“Check my homepage, one product and checkout for problems.”
“Which plugins need updates, and is any of them risky?”
“How healthy is my WooCommerce store?”
What happens when you press Enter.
You only see the conversation. Under it, PowerWP checks each request, records the changes and tests the risky ones. That is the difference between letting an AI loose on your site and handing it a tool with guards.
Update the phone number on the Contact page to +49 30 1234 567.
Updated in two places on the Contact page.
Your AI app picks the tools
It finds the Contact page and reads it first, so it knows what is there before it edits.
PowerWP checks the connection
Is the connection valid, not expired, from an allowed IP, and allowed to edit content? If not, the request stops here.
A snapshot is taken
The page as it is right now is saved, so this change can be rolled back.
The change runs, and risky ones are tested
After a plugin, theme or code change, PowerWP reloads your site and reverts the change if it shows an error.
It lands in your log, with a way back
PowerWP AI › Changes shows what changed and who did it, with a button to roll it back.
Give each AI app only what it needs.
Pick a level when you create a connection, or fine-tune it. You can change it or switch it off at any time.
| It may… | Read-only diagnostics | Content manager | Developer | Full access |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Look at settings, logs, health, orders, files and the database | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Edit pages, posts, products, orders, media | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |

No level lets an AI app change PowerWP itself, its connections or its log.
Use the one you already have.
PowerWP shows ready setup steps for each of these. Claude and ChatGPT sign in. The others connect with one message or one click, and we recommend Claude Code for developers and power users. Any other app that supports remote MCP servers works with the address and a key.
Claude and ChatGPT sign in to your site. Add its address as a connector, sign in to WordPress, choose what the app may do and click Allow. No key to copy. Your site needs HTTPS and a public address. How sign-in works
Five minutes from now, your AI app can see your site.
The Free plan gives one AI app read-only access to one site, with no end date. Upgrade when you want it to make changes.
