Connect Devin Desktop
Add your site to Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf) by pasting one message or editing mcp_config.json, so its agent can use your site's tools.
Devin Desktop, formerly Windsurf, is a desktop editor with an AI agent. Once your site is added, its tools are available to that agent.
Before you start#
Create a connection for Devin Desktop. Open PowerWP AI › Connections, choose Create connection, pick Devin Desktop, name it and choose what it may do. Choose Create key and show steps: the window shows the steps below with your address and key already in them. The key is shown once. Here it appears as <your key>.
Option 1: let Devin Desktop connect itself#
Copy the message under Let Devin Desktop connect itself and paste it into a chat in the app. It adds your site under mcpServers in the MCP config file and tells you the next step. The message contains your key, so paste it only into your own account. The app may ask you to allow the change.
Option 2: edit the MCP config file#
The file is mcp_config.json:
| System | Path |
|---|---|
| Windows | %APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json |
| macOS and Linux | ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json |
Note that this app uses serverUrl, not url:
{
"mcpServers": {
"your-store": {
"serverUrl": "https://your-store.com/wp-json/wpai/v1/mcp",
"headers": { "X-WPAI-Token": "<your key>" }
}
}
}- Open the ⋯ (Actions) menu at the top right of the Cascade panel and click Open MCP config file in the MCPs section.
- Paste the JSON above and save. If the file already lists other servers, paste only the
your-storeentry insidemcpServers, after the last entry, with a comma between the two. - Open the same ⋯ menu again. The MCPs section lists your site and how many tools it has. Switch it on with its toggle if it is off.
Check it works#
Ask the agent:
Give me an overview of my site.It calls site_overview and answers with your WordPress version, theme and plugins.
Troubleshooting#
- The server shows an error. Copy the setup again. The address must match exactly, and the setting must be
serverUrl. - Your site is not listed. Check that the file is valid JSON (a missing comma or bracket stops it) and restart the app.
- 401 "Authentication required". The key was copied incompletely. Keys cannot be shown twice: revoke the connection and create a new one.
- 403 or 429. 403 means your IP address is not on the connection's allow-list, or a firewall blocks
/wp-json/wpai/v1/. 429 means too many requests: wait a few minutes.
