Yes: several plugins let Claude work on a self-hosted WordPress site, and WordPress.com has an official connector for the sites it hosts. They all rest on MCP, the open standard Claude uses to reach outside tools. Which Claude WordPress plugin you pick depends on what it can change and how you get back.

How Claude reaches a WordPress site

Claude can’t look inside your site on its own. It needs a doorway, and that doorway is an MCP server. This is an address on your site that lists the available tools and checks who is asking. WordPress doesn’t offer one by itself, so a plugin adds it.

Once the site has that address, you add it to Claude as a custom connector. Claude on claude.ai, in the app and on your phone connects from the internet, so the site needs a public HTTPS address. What is MCP for WordPress? explains the idea in plain words.

Four ways to connect Claude to a WordPress site

These are the main routes as of October 2026. Details change often, so check each product’s own page before you decide.

1. WordPress.com: the official connector

If WordPress.com hosts your site, start here. As of October 2026, WordPress.com has its own MCP tools and an official connector in Claude’s connector directory. WordPress.com explains the settings. The rest of this article is about self-hosted sites.

2. The official MCP Adapter: the developer route

The official MCP Adapter is a free package aimed at developers. As of October 2026, it exposes “abilities” over MCP. An ability is a named thing your site can do, such as finding an order, and you register the abilities yourself.

Safety comes from the permission checks you write, and the adapter has no undo or backups of its own. That suits developers who want Claude to use their own plugin’s features. Our guide to the MCP Adapter explains what it needs.

3. Free MCP plugins

Several free plugins turn a site into an MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT. As of October 2026:

  • AI Engine from Meow Apps has a free MCP server, plus chatbots. It can restore the version of a post from before an edit, and its guide advises testing on a test site first.
  • Easy MCP AI is a free MCP server with read-only or custom keys, approvals and a change history.
  • Royal MCP has a free core, a drafts-only mode and a 72-hour undo for AI changes.

Two more are worth a look. WPVibe from SeedProd connects Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, with a free daily allowance of actions and paid plans from $19 a month. Jetpack AI undoes changes by restoring a Jetpack backup of the whole site, which is a paid feature.

For a small blog, a free plugin with approvals or a drafts-only mode may be all you need.

4. PowerWP AI

PowerWP AI is our plugin, so weigh this section accordingly. We built it to run our own WooCommerce stores. It turns your site into an MCP server with ready-made tools and a safety layer around them.

  • Sign-in for Claude. On claude.ai, in the Claude app and on your phone, you add your site as a custom connector, sign in to WordPress and click Allow. There is no key to copy. The Claude guide has the steps.
  • Permissions per app. Each connection gets its own permissions, from four presets or nine separate ones. Claude Code connects with a key instead of a sign-in.
  • Recorded changes. Changes are recorded, so you can roll them back: one change, everything after a checkpoint, or a whole work session.
  • A health check that reverts. After a plugin update or a code edit, PowerWP AI loads your site again. If the site now shows a fatal error, it reverts the change.
  • Rescue mode. If a plugin crashes WordPress, Claude can still reach PowerWP AI without your other plugins. This works when Claude connected by signing in, too.

A few actions can’t be rolled back, such as a sent e-mail or a cache flush. The log marks them, and the safety page lists them.

Hands for your AI app. A safety net for you. The Free plan is read-only, with no end date, and paid plans start at $9 a month per site.

Which Claude WordPress plugin should you pick?

Ask the same five questions of every option, ours included.

  1. What can it change? Content only, or also files, the database and plugins? Can you limit each app, or does everything get the same access?
  2. How do you get back? Is there an undo for one change and for a whole job? How long does it last, and what can’t it undo?
  3. What happens if it breaks the site? Does it test risky changes? Can Claude still reach the site when WordPress is down?
  4. Who is it for? A developer who writes their own abilities, or a site owner who wants to start today?
  5. What does it cost, and where does your data go? Whatever Claude reads from your site goes to Anthropic under its terms, with any plugin.

Our comparison page turns these into ten questions and lists other products as they describe themselves.

Be honest about fit. If your site is on WordPress.com, use its official connector. If you are a developer exposing your own plugin’s features, the MCP Adapter is the official building block. PowerWP AI is for owners and teams who want Claude to work on a live site with a way back.

Questions

Is there an official Claude WordPress plugin?

For sites hosted on WordPress.com, there is an official connector in Claude’s connector directory. For a self-hosted site, you use a plugin that offers an MCP address, and you add it to Claude as a custom connector.

Do I need a paid Claude plan?

No. As of October 2026, Anthropic offers custom connectors on its Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, and the Free plan allows one. On Team and Enterprise, an owner adds the connector first. Our guide to connecting Claude to WordPress compares three ways.

Can I use Claude with my site on my phone?

Yes. Once you add your site as a connector, it is also available in the Claude app on your phone.

Can Claude connect to a site on my own computer?

Not from claude.ai or the phone, because they connect from the internet. Claude Code runs on your computer and connects with a key, so it can.

Try it on your own site. The Free plan is read-only: Claude can look at everything and change nothing, with no card and no end date. When you want it to fix things, upgrade with the same key.
