To bulk edit WooCommerce prices with an AI app, just say it: “Raise Kitchen prices by 5%, round to .99, show me first”. The app reads your products, lists the new prices and saves them only after you say yes. With PowerWP AI, a batch of up to 100 products rolls back in one step.
Below: why the usual methods hurt, what a safe request looks like, and what to watch for with sale prices and variations. Then comes how to undo a batch.
The usual ways, and where they hurt
Most store owners change prices in one of three ways.
- One product at a time. Fine for five products. At two hundred, mistakes creep in and nobody checks them.
- CSV export and import. You export a file, change the prices in a spreadsheet and import it again. One shifted column can overwrite the wrong field.
- A bulk-edit plugin. It is quick once you know it. Rules such as “round to .99” or “skip products on sale” can be awkward in a form. Whether you can undo depends on the plugin.
All three share one weakness: you often see the result only after it is saved. Going back can mean restoring a backup or importing a second file.
Bulk edit WooCommerce prices with an AI app
An AI app connected to your store can read every product, apply a rule and show you the result before saving anything. Claude and ChatGPT connect to your site by signing in, with no key to copy. Claude Code, Codex and Cursor use a connection key.
You write the rule the way you would tell a colleague. Example, on a demo kitchenware store (your-store.com):
Raise the prices of everything in Kitchen by 5 percent and round to .99. Show me a table with the product, the current price and the new price first. Skip any product where the sale price would end up above the new price.
Here is what happens next:
- The app reads the products in the category and works out the new prices.
- It shows you the list. In the example: Cast Iron Skillet $39.00 to $40.99, Stoneware Mug $14.00 to $14.99, Tea Towel Set $18.00 to $18.99. Nothing is saved yet.
- You read it, change the rule if needed (“leave the skillet out”) and say yes.
- The app sets a checkpoint, saves three to five products, checks them, and then does the rest in batches of up to 100 items.
- It reads the changed products back, compares them with the plan and reports any item that returned an error. It also looks at two changed product pages and at the cart.
That is the whole loop: ask, read, approve, save, check. The same pattern works for stock and for sale prices. The WooCommerce guide lists the steps and the exact prompts.
Sale prices and variations
These two cause most surprises, so name them in your request.
- Sale prices. A product on sale has two prices. A change to one can leave the pair out of order, for example when you lower a regular price below its sale price. Say what you want: skip sale items, change both by the same percent, or leave sale prices alone. Ask for the sale price as its own column in the table.
- Variations. In WooCommerce, a variable product such as a mug in three sizes keeps its prices on its variations. Say whether the variations should change, and ask to see them in the table.
- Rounding. “Round to .99” can mean up to the next .99 or to the nearest one. Say which.
- Samples first. Ask to see three saved products before the rest.
For a sale that should end by itself, ask for the Schedule a sale recipe. A recipe is a ready-made procedure your AI app follows, and this one sets sale prices with start and end dates.
Start with a checkpoint
A checkpoint is a named marker in the change log. It copies nothing. It remembers where the log was, so everything that connection changes afterwards can be rolled back in one step. You ask for it in plain words:
Before you start, create a checkpoint called “before kitchen price update”. Then show me the price table and wait for my OK.
Three more points before you start:
- To save prices, the connection needs the Content & store data permission, which the Content manager preset includes. On the Free plan your AI app can read your products but cannot save anything.
- For more than a hundred items, make a database backup too. A backup covers what a snapshot cannot. See Backups and restore.
- Save the rule “Ask before changing prices” in the site memory once. Every AI app you connect then asks first.
Undo the whole batch in one step
Changes are recorded, so you can roll them back. When an AI app changes many items in one request, PowerWP AI saves each item as it was. That saved copy is a snapshot, and the request gets a batch ID. One rollback undoes the whole request, and the changed products return to their old prices.
You have two ways to do it. Open one of the batch’s changes in PowerWP AI › Changes and choose Roll back the whole batch. Or ask your AI app:
Roll back the price batch we just saved. Run it as a preview first and tell me what it would restore.
Some limits are worth knowing.
- A batch of up to 100 items is recorded. Larger batches are not, so your AI app keeps each batch at 100 items or fewer.
- Snapshots are kept for 30 days by default. After that, the change can no longer be rolled back.
- If a product was edited again after the batch, by you or another app, the rollback stops with a conflict. It does not overwrite the later work.
- Clearing a cache, which you may need so shoppers see the new prices, is not recorded. An e-mail that already went out is not recorded either.
The change log and undo page explains conflicts and previews. What can’t be undone lists the exceptions.
A short checklist
- Ask for the table first, with current and new prices.
- Name your rule for rounding, sale prices and variations.
- Ask for a checkpoint, and for a backup on big jobs.
- Approve three samples, then the rest.
- Check two product pages and the cart.
- Note the batch ID in the answer, in case you need to roll back.
The features page shows what else your AI app can do on a store.
Questions
Can Claude or ChatGPT change WooCommerce prices directly?
Not on their own. They need a connection to your store. With PowerWP AI they sign in to your site, and you choose what they may do. A read-only connection can look but not change.
Can I see the new prices before they are saved?
Yes, if you ask for it. Tell your app to show a table of current and new prices first and to wait for your OK. A preview is the app’s choice, so put it in the request.
What if I change more than 100 products?
Your AI app splits the job into batches of up to 100 items, and each batch rolls back in one step. A checkpoint takes back everything the connection changed after it. Make a database backup first for jobs this size.
Can I use AI to bulk edit WooCommerce products other than prices?
Yes. Stock quantities from a list work the same way, and the Schedule a sale recipe sets sale prices with start and end dates. Texts such as descriptions follow the same rule: three samples first, then the rest.
Try it on your own site. The Free plan is read-only: your AI app can look at everything and change nothing, with no card and no end date. When you want it to save the new prices, upgrade with the same key.
