Site memory
Site memory holds your rules, business facts and notes, so every AI app that connects starts with the same knowledge. AI apps propose, you approve.
Site memory is what every AI app should know about your site: how it must work here, the facts about your business, and what earlier sessions learned. It is stored on your site and reaches every connected app, on any computer or phone, so Claude Code on your desktop and another app on your laptop start from the same knowledge.
Three kinds of entries#
| Kind | What it holds | Example | Who writes it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rule | How AI apps must work on this site. | Ask before changing prices. | You. AI apps can propose. |
| Fact | Something about your business, often the answer to a setup question. | Orders placed before 2 pm ship the same day. | You. AI apps can propose. |
| Note | What an AI app learned about the setup. Apps treat notes as hints, never as instructions. | Product images are 1200 x 1200 px. | AI apps propose. You can add your own. |
When a request conflicts with a rule, the app says so and asks before going ahead. Passwords, keys, tokens and card numbers are refused: text that looks like one is not saved.
Where you manage it#
Open PowerWP AI › Memory. The screen has four parts:
- About the business lists the setup questions for your type of site and shows how many are answered.
- Rules lists your rules.
- Notes from AI apps lists what apps learned.
- Copy to another site exports and imports the memory.
The counts at the top show Rules, Facts, Notes and Waiting for you.
Setup questions for your site type#
PowerWP AI detects what kind of site you run from what is installed and published, and asks the questions that fit. Questions that apply to every site come first. Then come the questions of the packs that fit your site.
| Site type | Questions include |
|---|---|
| Every site (9) | Brand voice, Languages and markets, Audience and goals, Key pages, Never do, Who approves |
| Physical goods store (8) | Shipping regions and times, Stock rules, Returns policy, Free shipping, Product feeds |
| Digital goods store (7) | Delivery method, Refunds for digital goods, Support, Activation steps |
| News, magazine or blog (8) | Style guide, Sources and quotes, Updates and corrections, Categories and tags |
| Elementor site (2) | Design system, Protected pages and templates |
You can answer the questions in wp-admin, or ask your AI app to do it:
Set up the site memory. The app runs the setup_memory recipe. It first looks at your site, so it can offer what your pages already say as a suggestion ("Your About page says you ship within 2 days. Is that right?"). Then it asks the open questions in plain words, three or four at a time, and proposes your answers as facts. You can skip any question. When the memory is empty, apps that can propose are asked to offer this once their task is done.
AI apps propose, you approve#
An AI app cannot change the memory directly. When it uses memory_save, it stores a proposal to add, change or remove an entry. Proposals appear under Waiting for your approval on the Memory screen, and the dashboard shows when some are waiting. For each one you choose Approve (you can edit the text first) or Turn down. With several waiting, Approve all approves them together.
Example prompts:
Remember this rule: ask me before changing any prices.Save a note that the product images on this site are 1200 x 1200 px.Only connections with the Content & store data permission can propose. The memory is kept in PowerWP AI's own database table, which the database and option tools cannot reach, so an app cannot get around your approval.
Settings › Memory & recipes › Save proposals without my approval lets connections with the Settings & maintenance permission save directly. Content-only connections still propose. Leave it off unless you trust every such connection, because a saved rule reaches every AI app that connects.
How apps receive it#
The connection's instructions carry the site profile line, your rules, your labelled facts and the newest notes, up to a size limit. Apps read the rest with memory_list. site_overview carries the same for apps that ignore instructions. Each entry holds up to 600 characters, a kind can have 200 active entries, and up to 50 proposals can wait.
Copy it to another site#
On the Memory screen, Export saves the memory and your own recipes as a file named like powerwp-memory-your-store.com-date.json. Import on another site adds the entries. Answers and recipes with the same question or name are replaced, and everything else is added. Site backups do not include the memory, so export it if you want a copy.
